Knew right away it was one of our @pwhatchery babies…a project I’ve been honoured to be part of the past decade on Wuikinuxv’s Wannock River.
My great friend Chief Ted Walkus often repeats “They say hatcheries don’t produce large Chinook…and we’re proving them wrong!”
The Chinook hit a naked cut plug herring on a slow troll. The battle was a beauty and watching this giant hatchery fish swim away was epic. I’ve been grinding the past few years up and down B.C. Central Coast targeting one of these incredible Wannock Chinook, a mission akin to finding a needle in a haystack.
Well, to my wingman Trevor Gustafson, deckhand Mack Moore and the whole Percy Walkus Hatchery team down in Rivers Inlet…this one’s for you!
