Episode 1 Blog: Kicking Off a Fresh Big Coast Season 16

Here we go 2024!

From all of us with the Big Coast family to you and yours, we offer up best wishes for the New Year and a highly prosperous and meaningful 2024!

With each New Year comes a pile of fresh optimism, and Big Coast could not be in a cooler place kicking off the 2024 television season. We’re talking a new home base at the Bella Bella Cannery and brand new sponsors in Bridgeview Marine and Mercury Marine. We’ve been at this for almost 20 years now and excitement in the ranks from the move to Bridgeview/Mercury has been incredible to witness…and partake in!

Once we decided Big Coast was heading in a new boat and sponsor direction, we worked tirelessly with James McNeice and the Prince Rupert Bridgeview boat building crew to create the new BV30 Big Coast Edition. As far as heavy duty welded aluminum goes, this boat would be a game changer. With 1/4 inch West Coast grade aluminum, a 101/2-foot beam and 30-plus feet of badass this boat would define maritime Heavy Metal!

Add in a pair of twin Mercury Sea Pro 300 outboards and the new rig would also have power to spare…and reliability in spades. Back in black for the first time in decades, all the Mercury controls and bells and whistles would ultimately help tie the BV30 package all together.

In addition to a whole lot of Bridgeview/Mercury, the new BV30 Big Coast Edition would be decked out with the latest in Garmin Marine electronics, from displays to AIS, autopilot to three transducers and one kickass Fusion sound system. The Garmin system would even feature InReach operability and some special yet-to-be-released deep drop tweaks that will ultimately set the rig apart from anything on the water.

The project was awesome, albeit a grind with a tight timeline. The Rupert Crew did an amazing job getting the new boat dialled by August and we had an amazing time breaking the BV30 in and taking her Southbound down the Inside Passage to Bella Bella.

Now that’s a lot of new in a short period of time. Especially for a unique TV show that would be filming its 200th episode summer of 2023. But oftentimes change is a welcome and wonderful thing and we couldn’t be happier with all the changes.

Big Coast has developed some incredible relationships with Coastal First Nations over theyears, reflected in the new home base at Bridgeview Denny Island and Bella Bella Cannery. Located in the heart of Heiltsuk

Territory and next to Shearwater Wilderness Resort, the new Big Coast base is central to continuing work with Coastal First Nations, stewardship and responsible boating, angling and television production.

In addition to boating and angling West Coast ways, the Big Coast crew has put incredible effort into salmon stewardship and working on projects such as Percy Walkus Hatchery in Rivers Inlet and Kitasoo/Xai’xais Stewardship Creek Walking Program in Klemtu. If you love salmon like we do, stewardship and building relationships with our Coastal First Nations brethren is the only way to help save salmon and subscribe to true reconciliation.

We’ve been fortunate to foster some incredible long-term sponsor relationships over the years and couldn’t thank Islander Reels, Scotty, Duncanby Lodge, Pure Fishing and Pacific Net and Twine enough for being on board for such a West Coast ride. A big thanks as well to Garmin Marine, Ultradeck Flooring and Shockwave Seats for their incredible backing and support.

In the end, we produce Big Coast for you…our wonderful and quirky West Coast audience, from California to Alaska…with a whole lotta British Columbia in-between.

As we gear up to launch Big Coast Season 16 in 2024, please tune in to our incredible broadcast partners World Fishing Network US, Sportsman Channel, CHEK TV, CKPG, CFJC and CHAT. You can also check out Big Coast on our new Big Coast YouTube Channel and new website at www.bigcoasttv.com.

A big Hey to all our coastal brothers and sisters and Coastal First Nations from Prince Rupert to Hartley Bay, Klemtu to Bella Bella and Bella Coola to Rivers Inlet. It’s a big coast out there…and we truly love connecting the dots!

Welcome friends to 2024 and best wishes. This…is Big Coast!
